Helen Hayes Meets Kim Axton, Discovers A Baby Boomer Hobby From 1960s And Takes Chequered Flag
Last weekend, Helen Hayes discovered a craze that dominated the boy’s toys hobby during the 1960s – slot car racing. Graeme Kemlo admits to being one of those teenagers who built their own slot car and went into the city to race it on a couple of large tracks. Well our Helen apparently took to the experience like a duck to water, at least that’s what our interviewee Kim Axton says. It seems the hobby never really died and now nearing retirement the 1960s teenagers are back at tracks like the one Kim has installed in the Seagulls Club Tweed Heads, where Helen burned some rubber.
