Spain Celebrates Its Mayores As Greater Not Older -Karin Avila

The Mediterranean diet is famous for contributing to a long and healthy life. In Spain, a combination of diet, strong family units, active lifestyles, and publicly supported workshops and activities contribute to the health and wellness of the mayores (“greater”) generation. Whereas in some cultures, getting older is associated with decline and negative stereotypes, in Spain mayores are revered, and entering the golden age can signal a new beginning. Our Spain correspondent Karin Avila shares her observations with Graeme Kemlo.
