Lee Davey GM Rydges Melbourne Reopened After Transformation -Graeme Kemlo
For almost 30 years Rydges Hotel Melbourne had been a popular spot with rural visitors to the city looking for a centrally located hotel near the theatre and restaurant district, a tram ride to the MCG for the cricket or footy and they didn’t mind that it was not the latest ,flashiest five star in town. But time caught up with the hotel and the brand so 18 months ago it closed for a refresh, and a transformation into 21st century contemporary style. It reopened this week, virtually a new hotel for Melbourne on Exhibition Street adjacent to theatres, restaurants, Chinatown and on its first official night of trading General Manager Lee Davey tells Graeme Kemlo the hotel was at capacity and full of conference delegates in its new meeting and event space.
