Chris Bichard on Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society: Sue Ahearn
The recent film…the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society has seen renewed interest in the island of Guernsey off the coast of France, which suffered a the five year long German occupation. Of course we in Australia know about Guernsey because the word Guernsey is used to describe our Aussie Rules footy jumpers. Guernseys are still being manufactured there using traditional methods – ideal if you’re working on a fishing boat or in the coldest temperatures in winter. Handmade guernseys sell for around 80 pounds or 160 AUD.
Sue Ahearn was there recently and spoke to Chris Bichard from the Guernsey visitor Information Centre – you can listen to it on SoundCloud – https://soundcloud.com/travelwritersradio/chris-bichard-guernsey-tourism-potato-peel-pie-sue-ahearn
Sue also managed to get the pie recipe (above)
