Snow Gum -Canary in Global Climate Coalmine -Anthony Sharwood
Award winning journalist and author, Anthony Sharwood loves the highly colourful, gnarly, twisted trees that grow only in a very small section of Australia – about one sixth of one percent of our mainland, which is the area occupied by the Australian Alps. In his new book, The Last Snow Gum, writtem woth actvist Anna Langford, he describes this tree as “the canary in the global climate goldmine.” He tells Graeme Kemlo researchers need proper funding to find a solution to the three factors killing off the snow gum woodlands above our snowline and if lost there would be significant consequences. His book is a passionately written call to action.
