In Minnesota, a moment of relative calm. A small vigil at the site of the
shooting of Renee Good by an ICE agent included drums, chants, incense, and peaceful observers.
Flowers, candles and signs extend nearly the length of a city block. Since the January 7 killing, verifiable reports continue of masked, armed ICE agents in unmarked cars entering private property without warrants, detaining U.S. citizens without cause, shooting tear gas and pepper spray into people’s faces and into observers’ cars.
Since our report [airing January 14] was taped, the State of Minnesota and cities of
Minneapolis and St. Paul filed a federal lawsuit contending that the mass deployment of immigration agents violates the U.S. Constitution and infringes on states’ rights. The Department of Homeland Security responded with the announcement of another thousand agents deployed to Minnesota, on top of the 2,000 sent here last week.
On January 13, six prosecutors with Minnesota’s U.S. Attorney’s office resigned,
protesting the FBI’s refusal to cooperate with the State’s investigators, and the Trump administration’s request that they investigate the widow of the victim, Renee Good, while suggesting there will be no investigation of ICE Agent Jonathon Ross.Read More
