Alistair Smith In Search of Skylab That Crashed To Earth Past Perth
As a newspaper reporter in the 1970s here in Melbourne, Alistair Smith was well aware of the scare that gripped Perth in Western Australia when it was announced by NASA that their Skylab space platform on returning to earth was likely to crash into the city. That did not happen, but it came relatively close and crashed further east into the West Australian bush. Like a good newshound, years later Alistair followed up to find out where it crashed and whether there was any debris – – he found it and more in Balladonia, a little town that even got an apologetic phone call from President Jimmy Carter.
