Hawaii Governor Josh Green’s Update On Maui Wildfire Recovery
Some of the world’s favourite destinations it seems are being challenged by natural events, some related to climate change, but others just part of the environment, such as volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. Hawaii is certainly a favourite of mine and many Australians and I felt it was important to recognise today, just over a month since the wildfires devastated the historic township of Lahaina– the seat of power of the original Hawaiian Kingdom. And while we recognise that we are mere visitors to these islands, those who live there and those who host us on our holiday are grieving now. Many of you may have plans to visit Hawaii, some may have had to cancel those plans, some of you wonder if it is even appropriate to enjoy a holiday while local residents continue to suffer. So we are going to broadcast part of an address by Hawaiian governor Josh Green which spells out the current situation for the recovery effort, now that the rescues have been completed, the tally of the dead and the missing have been done and the plans to both house Lahaina residents and rebuild the town are being discussed.Read More
