Carolyne Jasinski Taking The Dog On A Half Lap Of Australia -Graemer Kemlo
Carolyne Jasinski is bringing new meaning to travel with your concept of a Half Lap Dog. She Tells Graeme Kemlo what is involved in packing up the RV, the husband, Monty the terrier in a dog harness and taking everyone up down and around the continent. And what allowances have you had to make to suit the pooch and the places you can visit over the next three months.
It’s a dog’s life … especially if you’re a (half) Lap Dog
If you look at social posts, it feels like every man and his dog are on the road.
And if you ask those who have to cater to dog owners, they are.
G’Day Parks have 250 pet-friendly parks (out of 300 parks).
That’s largely in response to a steady increase in bookings with pets.
FY21-FY22: increase of +16%
FY20-FY21: increase of +80%
FY19-FY20: increase of +36%
In 2023, there has already been a month-on-month average 6%
But March 2023 showed a whopping 58% increase on March 2022.
So, what’s it like to travel with a dog … not just a weekend away, but a long trek … around half of the country?
What can you do?
Does taking a dog restrict you? You can’t take them into national parks so what are the options? Go only to pet-friendly places? Or get a dog sitter?
Where can you stay?
Plenty of free camps along the way but you don’t have to avoid caravan parks any more.
And just like luxury stays, dogs get special treatment – dog beds in cabins with a blanket and welcome packs (with a bone) on arrival.
They have specific fenced off sites that attach to caravanning lots that have closed gates, off-lead paddocks for dogs within the park, dog stick exchanges and walking trails and tracks that are suitable for pets.
