Karin Avila, US-born but now living in Spain, visited Morocco earlier this year, opting not to linger in the popular tourist haunts of Marrakech, the country’s fourth largest city. Instead she took a grand taxi (a loz cost communal tbus) the 70 km south to the foothills of the Atlas mountains and the Berber village of IMLIL, 1800 metres above sea level.
