Fabulous Ladies Wine Society Founder Jane Thomson Wants More Women Winemakers -Graeme Kemlo
The name probably says it all – the Fabulous Ladies Wine Society is an Australian group that now numbers 20,000 women who enjoy wine, getting together, and even travelling interstate and overseas to visit wineries. Behind the society is Jane Thomson, who admits the idea was born over a few glasses of wine one night. Behind the social element there’s also a determination to support female winemakers and ultimately to see more women in an industry that Jane says loses its female graduates in oenology and viticulture. Equal numbers enter the industry but only 10 per cent remain. Graeme asked Jane if she had a background in the wine industry to take on what must now be a full-time job for its passionate founder.
