The title of the book – The Antipodean Express – captured our attention. New Zealander Greg Hill, a newly retired French Horn player in the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra was intrigued to find the antipodes of his home city Wellington, and so he planned a journey by train to find the exact same relative GPS coordinates in the Northern Hemisphere as in the south. He wanted to travel slowly, but not too slowly as he had a three-month timeframe because his wife, also a professional musician, had taken just that much leave from her job as a violinist in the same orchestra.
