There’s an event coming up on Saturday that we need to talk about because it is 96 years since the Red Hill Agricultural Socuety staged the first of their annual Shoows on the Mornington Peninsula, which is Melbourne’s bayside playground. But is used to be a food bowl with fruit trees, cattle, sheep grazing and working farms. Now the peninsula ,about one hour from Melbourne and two hours to go all the way to the heads at Portsea, has become a place where many are permanent residents and commute to the city, where hobby farms have carved up the broadacres and where the crowds flock on weekends and public holidays.
