Recently, Belinda Jackson wrote the cover story for the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age newspapers about the trend of creating hotels from buildings that sometimes, have a very different purpose. It’s the ultimate act of recycling, isn’t it? Some spectacular buildings that would otherwise have been left to decay or bought privately,are now hotels which are open to the public. In Sydney, we recently saw the old NSW Department of Education reopen as the five-star Capella Sydney (pictured), while in Melbourne, there’s been a more dramatic turnaround for the bluestone Pentridge Prison, which now houses cafes, a brew house, restaurants and The Interlude, a 19-room hotel that is set to open this winter.Read More
